FED EX Driver Killed By Other Truck’s Debris

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

A Fed Ex truck driver is dead after a car accident this morning. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 3 a.m. truck accident happened when another semi-truck blew a tire and its debris flew into the path of the driver of the Fed Ex semi truck. The Fed Ex truck swerved to miss the debris and crashed into a wall. Sadly, the Fed Ex truck driver was killed on impact.

According to Bay News 9, officials closed the two right lanes of westbound I-4 and the neighboring 301 exit ramp for several hours.

Under Florida workers’ compensation law, this driver’s family is limited on the amount of workers’ compensation benefits they are entitled to. However, the family may be entitled to a third-party case against the other truck driver whose actions caused the truck accident.

If your loved one is injured while within the course and scope of his or her employment, it is important that you talk to an attorney about your rights under Florida’s workers’ compensation law as well as possible rights for a claim because of someone’s negligence causing your injuries.

Perenich, Caulfield, Avril, Noyes & Perenich is pleased to announce that Legal Assistant Klodiana Hysenlika has been selected to attend the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan beginning in May 2010.

After taking the LSAT exam, Klodiana received a letter from the school stating her writing portion of the exam was exceptional and invited her to visit for a week. In an all expenses paid trip she had the opportunity to prove she has what it takes to be an attorney. While there, she was given 2 exams and evaluated on character and reasoning skills. This past November she received her admittance letter. Out of the 35 that participated in this program only 50 percent were accepted to the law school.

Originally from Albania, Klodiana has lived in the United States for ten years and speaks four different languages. She worked full time while attending the University of South Florida where she received her B.S. in Political Science in 2007. We are proud to say that Klodiana joined our firm as a Legal Assistant in April 2008.

Congratulations Klodiana! We look forward to your success.

Holiday Safety Tips

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Celebrating during the holiday season can be an enjoyable time for family and friends. Many people travel and visit family and friends who live far away. Unfortunately, this time of year hundreds of people are injured or lose their lives from car accidents. The following holiday safety tips are given with our sincere wish that you have a joyous and safe holiday season.

  • Plan your route beforehand. Allow yourself plenty of time to arrive at your destination, you can drive at safer speeds, take adequate rest breaks, and keep your stress levels down.
  • Before you go, check the condition of your car, including your tire pressure, oil, and lights. Carry a spare tire and emergency equipment with you in case of an accident.
  • Keep your passengers safe. Always buckle up!
  • Plan out a route with alternatives. Get directions in advance, in case of bad weather or traffic congestion.
  • Listen to the local radio for weather conditions and construction on highways.
  • Keep interruptions to a minimum. Provide children with plenty of their own distractions, and always pull to the side of the road to use your cell phone.
  • Don’t drink and drive. Designate a driver if there will be drinking at your holiday celebration.

These safety tips may prevent a tragedy during the upcoming holiday season. However, we at Perenich, Caulfield, Avril, Noyes & Perenich, P.A. know that no matter how safe you drive, other drivers are not as careful.
